My work encompasses a diverse range of settings and contexts with a focus on connection, communication and quality. I have been fortunate enough to work with a wide variety of organisations who share my passion for creativity and access, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Barbican Creative Learning, NW Live Arts, Drumworks, Aldeburgh Young Musicians and Create. As part of my work with my quartet Breakfast Club, I have worked with migrant and refugee women in Athens, Greece and here in London. I have been teaching at the Guildhall School of Music since 2015 and I relish the opportunity to expose young musicians to life beyond the practice room and to expand their definition of what a career in music might look like. Within this capacity, I led a practical research project into music and dementia at two leading London Hospitals - Music, Memory and Me - as well as a health and wellbeing project working with mothers and babies under 6 months. This is part of a broader interest in the arts and health, for which I have worked as a musician for Music in Hospitals, and have led workshops in nursing homes and special education contexts with Create! As a composer and musician, I have performed my own work at the Adelaide Fringe Festival (Aus); the Sydney Fringe Festival (Aus); and the Curious Festival (UK). I was invited to the Bang on A Can Summer Institute (MA, USA) where I worked with a collective of international musicians and composers, before returning for a 5 week residency in New York. I perform with my ensembles Breakfast Club and Gold Vox, and I released my debut EP of original recorder duets entitled Ghost in 2018, whilst Breakfast Club released our album As Our Hands Move in Within this capacity, I teach on both the undergraduate and postgraduate music degrees, developing and delivering course content for Collaborative Skills, Workshops Skills and Socials Arts Practice. I also taught on the Leadership Masters course and the Performance and Creative Entreprise undergraduate degree. Within my classes, students explore collaboration as a means of generating new, creative material; develop their own artistic voice and reflective practice; and learn the practical skills to lead and faciliatate music workshops. They engage with group improvisations and composition writing with their peers in the classroom, as well as developing their leadership skills during placements in hospitals, schools, SEN contexts and community centres. It is so exciting to witness the journey of these young musicians, and to encourage them explore themeselves not only as artists but as citizens of the world.I love to teach and share my knowledge of social outreach methodologies and I am excited to support the next generation of creative leaders. My mentoring practice comes from the incredible training of Jane Cook and Linden Learning and I love it as (like all the best things) it gives me the same amount of insight and reflection as it does the young people. Aldeburgh Young Musicians brings together some of the best young musicians to further develop their artistic and musical practice through workshops, rehearsals and performances. It really focuses on stretching the young musicians - to help them explore new ideas. The mentoring program has such a postitive impact as it seeks to provide a moment where the mentee can have the space to tackle difficult questions, celebrate growth, or simply be listened to. All my mentees are different ages, have different interests and backgrounds - but what unites them is an inspiring level of maturity and curiosty in what it means to be a musician.&nbsp; Waltham Forest Music Hub (London) Between 2016 - 2019, I led a teacher training program between the Barbican and Waltham Forest Music Hub. During this time, I ran CPD training for peripetetic music teachers to learn how to set up and run a creative ensemble for young people, as well as also being lead facilitator for a new Waltham Forest ensemble called Scratchmakers. It was such pleasure to work with the music hub teachers and to support them as they grew in confidence and skill. His artworks gave many Australians their first glimpses into the heart of the country. The Namatjira family are holders of this celebrated heritage, and yet today face many challenges. The long term project has centered around an award-winning theatre performance, Namatjira, seen by 50,000 people, telling the story of Albert Namatjira, with his family on stage. I was so thrilled to be a part of this deeply moving show as we toured NSW and South Australia. Actors Trevor Jamieson and Derik Lynch absolutely lit up the stage every single night, and were a joy to share the stage with. I was also honoured to work alongside premier Australian artists Evert Ploeg, Robert Hannaford and Michael Peck, as well as members of the Namatjira family who created a beautiful chalk backdrop of the McDonald Ranges for every show. I don't think I'll ever forget the magic of taking the show back out to Ntaria for all the Namatjira family to see. It was such a pleasure to hand the musical reins back to my hero Genevieve Lacey (who composed all of the music) and to watch the story unfold in front of hundreds of people, under the star studded central Australian sky.&nbsp; Alongside the theatre production, the project has featured: a sell-out exhibition of watercolours in London, an exhibition of 5 generations of Namatjira descendant’s art in Parliament House Canberra, audiences with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip and Prince Charles, public painting masterclasses, public talks, extensive media stories, community development workshops, a watercolour app, a soundtrack CD, intergenerational knowledge sharing, and work in the school at Hermannsburg. I was incredibly excited to join Caroline and her team, and to boost the profile and scope of NWLA’s social outreach projects. Each outreach project worked concurrently with the preparation and rehearsal of incredible live concerts, featuring musicians from around the world. My workshops were imbedded into the community surrounding the venue selected for the concert, such as St John’s Waterloo and Cecil Sharp House in Camden, and we invited particpants to join from organisations such as Write to Life (Freedom from Torture), Crisis, Women for Refugee Women and local homeless charities. I also invited several young musicians from the Guildhall School to join in project as part of their training in workshops skills. Each project resulted in incredible, origical music often intertwined with poetry and spoken words, and I was humbled by the generosity of spirit and creativity of the participants I was also really excited to put together a handbook articulating our philosophies, practices and methodologies, and to have an opportunity to more deeply consider our evaluative and reflective frameworks. It’s organisations like NW Live Arts who are helping to keep pushing the remit and the quality of the socially engaged arts projects that we do, and it was wonderful to be a part of it.&nbsp;You can Discovery since 2016, specifically as an animateur as part of LSO Connect. LSO Connect is a programme of activity with, by and for older Islington residents, offering opportunities for sharing stories and musical exploration in a positive, creative and kind environment.I have been running an annual multi-disciplinary project at the Claremont Project, an incredible centre based in Islington that runs a rich and varied programme of classes for over 55’s. Over the the years we have created countless new songs, worked with documentary film maker Tim Travers-Hawkins, choreographer Hannah Williams, met on zoom during the pandemic, and in 2024 we premiered an orginal work on the Barbican main stage accompanied by the full London Symphony Orchestra. I feel incredibly honoured towork with such an inspiring, encouraging, brave and creative community - it’s a highlight of my year. The project was created in collaboration with dancer and choreographer Dimitris Sotiriou, actor and poet Mihalis Sionas, hip hop artist Negros tou Moria and architects SWOP, alongside residents and staff of the Asilo. It was an absolutely incedible experience.
